Adult Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
Our adult partial hospitalization program helps you heal while staying connected to your daily life.

Partial Hospitalization: Why Choose Fairfax Behavioral Health?
Traditional therapy isn’t always enough. The Fairfax Behavioral Health adult partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a structured outpatient mental health treatment program for people 18 and up. You get focused care five days a week and spend nights and weekends at home.
Some people step down to PHP after inpatient treatment. Others enter PHP as an alternative to hospitalization. Whatever your journey, we’re here to help you take the next steps to get your life on track.
Our partial hospitalization program meets five hours a day, five days a week. Most people attend for three to four weeks to get the full benefits of the program. Many find comfort knowing they can get structured care during the day while sleeping in their own bed at night.
Highlights of our program include:
- Experienced providers: Many of our staff have been here for years. We put in the hard work to make a difference for you, and we hope you will, too.
- Supportive environment: You’re not alone here. We help you find a sense of community with fellow participants while you work through similar issues.
- Flexible treatment: We offer virtual and in-person programs to fit your needs. Our virtual care is for people in rural parts of Washington, Oregon and Alaska.
- Options for your care: If you need a different level or type of care, Fairfax Behavioral also offers shorter, three-day-a-week programs, including an intensive outpatient program (IOP) and a substance use disorder IOP. We also offer an inpatient adult psychiatric treatment program for adults who need hospitalization.
- Trauma-informed approach: We understand how trauma impacts every aspect of mental health, and we provide an environment that promotes healing.
- Help for all: We value everyone. We support and affirm LGBTQ+ individuals. We’re also neurodivergent-friendly and present learning materials in various formats to accommodate different learning styles.
- Family involvement: We offer family meetings if you want your loved ones to be a part of your care. The choice is always yours.
What to Expect With PHP Treatment

We help you gain practical tools for your day-to-day life. We also encourage you to contribute to your mental well-being by fully participating in the program.
Your program at Fairfax Behavioral includes a variety of learning opportunities:
- Group therapy: You share your challenges and successes with others and learn new perspectives.
- Psychoeducation group: This group helps you learn about healthy boundaries, effective communication skills and ways to cope with distressing situations.
- Skills group: You practice what you learn, with role playing, worksheets and other methods.
- Medication management: We monitor and adjust your medication to stabilize your mood and thoughts.
- Weekly meetings: You have one-on-one meetings with your case manager or therapist.
Expressive therapy
Creativity and movement are important for mental health. We offer expressive group therapy, including art, music and recreation therapy. These therapies support your healing and self-discovery with fun and healthy socialization. We encourage you to find activities you enjoy that you can continue after you leave the program.
Why group therapy?
Mental health programs typically use group therapy as the foundation of care. You may feel uncertain about group therapy, and that’s OK. Many participants see the benefits once they try it. You can learn a lot by listening to the experiences of others and sharing your experiences with them.
